John Davison

Consultant Geriatrician, Dept of Geriatric & Rehabilitation Medicine, Royal Adelaide Hospital I graduated in 1992 from Newcastle-upon-Tyne Medical School, UK with postgraduate training in geriatric and general internal medicine in the North of England, New Zealand and in Sydney, Australia, where I developed the first specialist falls and syncope service for Western Sydney. I have held substantive consultant posts since 2005 as Specialist Geriatrician and General Physician for 17 years in the Newcastle Upon Tyne Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust. In 2022, I moved to Hawkes Bay and then Christchurch in New Zealand prior to relocation to Adelaide in early 2025. During tenure in the UK, I held a range of managerial roles including Head of Dept of Geriatric Medicine and Head of Service of the tertiary referral Falls & Syncope Service, the largest outpatient service of its type in Europe. I have substantial experience in postgraduate medical education, progressing to senior educational leadership roles as Associate Dean in the NE of England, Assistant Director of Medical Education in one of the largest UK NHS Trust teaching hospitals and Chair of the NE of England Faculty of Clinical Informatics. In a peer-elected capacity I have contributed to geriatric medicine and medical education at a national level throughout the last three decades including national roles in Australia and New Zealand as elected Council Member of the Australian & New Zealand Society for Geriatric Medicine and as prior elected Council Member of the Royal College of Physicians of Edinburgh. I was awarded a PhD in May 2006 by the University of Newcastle-upon-Tyne in multifactorial assessment and intervention in older recurrent fallers attending the emergency department with research interest in falls prevention. I continue as an invited speaker at international conferences in the UK and Australia relating to my sub-specialist expertise in falls, complex dizziness and syncope including expertise in functional neurological disorders. I hold Fellowships of both UK and Australasian Physicians Colleges. In Adelaide I am providing clinical geriatrics services in acute, community and rehabilitation elderly care settings along with outpatient expertise in memory clinic and multidisciplinary fall prevention clinics.
