This interactive 90 minute presentation is designed to support all clinicians, at every career stage in improving their patient centred care. Clinicians will never completely master communication as there is always something new to learn and refine.
Building on a philosophy of health care, communication theory and describing the impact of good communication, the presentation will demonstrate the positive effects on patients and families as well as clinicians and the organisations in which they work.
Goals of care and navigating difficult conversations are broken into manageable pieces. Dealing with heightened emotions such as sadness and anger are described in a manner to progress patient care. Family meetings and conflict, and introducing transitions of care are unpacked and the audience is invited to bring their own challenging communication questions to explore in a safe environment.
The presentation is built from entertaining real life examples and will contain many tips and tools to improve communication. Reflective practice and feedback are emphasised and resources will be identified to continue ongoing learning. Come and learn from David’s mistakes!
