Derek Prinsley Memorial Address - Using big data to monitor and improve care quality for older people within and across care settings- a desirable and technically feasible innovation (#29)

Maria Inacio 1
  1. South Australian Health and Medical Research Institute, Adelaide, SOUTH AUSTRALIA, Australia

Australia is a data rich country that recognises the value of robust data infrastructures and data integration to inform how individuals can be cared for. The efficient and pragmatic monitoring of vulnerable populations and prediction of individuals’ risk of experiencing poor care quality outcomes, particularly in long-term care settings, are both desirable and technically feasible nationally. Prof Inacio will showcase how integrated national aged and health care data can be employed to monitor older people in the long-term care sector and how sophisticated analytics can be employed to predict risk of poor quality of care at different periods of their care journey.  Prof Inacio will also introduce the The Australian Consortium for Aged Care National Framework for High Quality Person-Centred Care, a novel evidence-based framework that proposes quality of care monitoring and improvement as the collective responsibilities of all settings and providers caring for older people. This framework identifies the key principles and elements that constitute high quality care across multiple care settings.
