Minimally Invasive and Conservative Treatment Options for Urinary Incontinence in Frail Older Women  (#2)

Samantha Pillay 1
  1. Continence Matters, North Adelaide, SA, Australia

Urinary incontinence in frail older women is common, disabling, and frequently under-addressed in routine geriatric assessment. It influences falls risk, hospitalisation, institutionalisation, and quality of life. Asking about continence should be standard practice.

This session will provide a practical, surgeon-led perspective on the assessment and management of urinary incontinence in frail older women. The focus will be on appropriate diagnostic work-up, interpretation of findings, and identifying which patients warrant specialist referral.

Minimally invasive treatment options will be discussed, along with realistic expectations of conservative therapy in older adults.

The aim is to provide geriatricians with clear referral pathways and practical guidance to optimise continence care in complex older women.
